Yanni Live! The Concert Event was released on August 1, 2006, in the United States and August 16, 2006, in Canada. It was released in Europe on September 20, 2006. In Australia, the album was released on November 28, 2007, as Yanni Live at the Sydney Opera House. The album was certified Gold in August 2006, Platinum in November 2006, and double Platinum in June 2008.
This was the last concert released on DVD by Universal Music. A live album of the concert was released on July 30, 2006, as a CD and concert film on Blu-ray. The Blu-ray release also includes the DVD of the concert.
The concert was one of three sold out shows held during the month of November 2004, the other two being Yanni in Concert: Live at the Hollywood Bowl (October 26, 2004) and Yanni in Concert: Live at the House of Blues (November 3, 2004). The DVD release of this concert is a double disc, a two-hour show (exactly 6:05:20) as well as a single disc, a 52-minute show (exactly 6:03:49). Both versions of the DVD are in Dolby 5.1 surround sound.
The album features ten songs and the first hour is a studio version of the concert, whereas the second hour is the concert proper. The album featured new arrangements of songs such as From the Heart (co-arranged by Yanni and Kevin Kiner), The Call of the Flower (co-arranged by Yanni and Kevin Kiner), Cafe de la Musique (co-arranged by Yanni and Kevin Kiner), and Stars (co-arranged by Yanni and Kevin Kiner).
The concert was part of the fifth anniversary celebration of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, members of the United States Forest Service who perished in 2003 when their fire truck plunged off a cliff near Prescott, Arizona, killing the six firefighters. Yanni donated all proceeds from the live album to the Granite Mountain Hotshots Family Association.
