I've never experienced this crack in any version of Linux I've used. I've been using Linux since late 1999 and sound crack has never occurred to me. I've definitely never experienced it in any version of Ubuntu. I've been using Ubuntu since late 1999.
It's a mystery to me that Linux sound crack can suddenly appear or disappear during an upgrade. I have never experienced it. I have experienced it in Ubuntu 18.04 but it's gone after upgrade to 20.04. It's also disappeared during upgrade to 20.10.
So, with power_save = 0 I got the same crack and there is no crack if I set power_save = 1. So, to confirm, I set power_save = 1 and I got a crack. I set power_save = 0 and I didn't get the crack. Confirmed. Now we know what is the difference.
I'm using a nVidia card (GTS 250), and I have no idea why power_save = 1 makes me get the crack. If anyone has any idea why that happens, let me know. Otherwise I'll keep on using power_save = 0.
Nvidia card, KUbuntu 20.04, power_save = 1. Crackle immediately after applying power (it was working fine on 18.04). Black screen for about 10 seconds, then desktop loaded in. Using Intel card, same behavior. Saw something similar a few months ago, not sure if it was a different driver or kernel version though.
If you're experiencing cracking sounds, it's possible that the driver is just misbehaving. There could be a reason why the card is creating crackling sounds, and the default behaviour is probably not what you want. If you're experiencing crackling sounds, try setting power_save to 2 or 3. Then disable and re-enable power saving in the Sound settings, and note what happens. If you like, leave power_save at 3, and see if the crackling stops. If it does, that's a good sign that the driver is misbehaving.
I am running a PC with Windows 7 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. I am wondering how to end the trial period and convert to a full copy of Photoshop CS6. I tried closing down Photoshop, which produced a message telling me to return the disk. I did that, but the same message returned. How can I end this?
