Filming commenced in Chennai in early December 2011 and was to be held in various locations in the US for 60 days and later in Delhi and various locations across southern Tamil Nadu.[12][13] Sources said that the film would be entirely shot in Los Angeles city.[14] Almost 50 per cent of the shoot was completed with the Delhi and Chennai schedules.[4] While \"delays in getting the visa for the entire cast and crew\" was the official reason given for the change of location from the US to the UK, sources told that the move was also necessitated to keep the budget from skyrocketing.[4][15] Some scenes were shot in UK,[16] including a song and dance scene shot at Botany Bay in Kent.[17] Lakshmi Rai joined the team in London in April 2012.[18] A duet song between Vikram and Amy was shot on the River Thames.[19]
P. Vasu, the director, said that the film was virtually 90 per cent wrapped up. “We are almost ready to release the film by Jan. 2012.” said Vasu.[15] The filming officially began in December 2011.[12]Tamil Nadu film censors had released the film’s certificate in December 2011 after the filmmakers had shot for a day.[20]
The film had earlier hit the screens at several places in the state, ahead of the nationwide commercial release in March 2012. It had been screened for 115 days in the state, with mega shows held in Puducherry, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore and Thanjavur.[13] Several of the films, especially those sponsored by the state government, held a preview show in January, with a culmination of such events occurring on January 10.
