Bangladesh's struggles with the bat in recent years and their record in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) have been equally poor. Their worst ODI defeat in terms of runs was against Australia in the 2011 World Cup, when Bangladesh lost by 105 runs, their largest ever ODI margin of defeat. They also lost to Australia in the 2012 ICC Champions Trophy by 75 runs, and to England in the 2015 World Cup group stage by 74 runs. In their last ten ODIs, Bangladesh have lost eight of their nine matches by runs totals of over 400 runs (and one match was a result in which no runs were scored).[181]
Bangladesh's dismal batting performances have also been in part due to their fielding, and the apparent lack of a reliable spinner. Bangladesh did not regularly use spin bowling in Test cricket before the 2004–05 ICC Champions Trophy, when they used two spinners in three Tests, but have not used spin at all in ODIs and T20Is for more than a decade. The erratic pace bowling of Mominul Haque is also a major weakness. Mominul's bowling style sometimes appears to be more of a natural googly (he is the only Bangladeshi bowler to have taken a wicket with a googly since Shakib Al Hasan in 2011) than a swinging or outswinging delivery, and his accuracy is frequently hit-and-miss. He was very ineffective in both the 2007 World Cup and 2011 World Cup, conceding a combined total of 419 runs in 5.66 overs at an average of 59.
In the 2012 Champions Trophy, Bangladesh were considered to have the third strongest side in the competition, behind India and England.[182] They were placed in Group A, along with West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Facing a tough group, Bangladesh won their first three matches, against New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies, but lost the last five games, including against England and India in the semi-finals. In the final, Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 10 runs to win their first one-day international series against another Test-playing nation, and became the second team to beat both India and Pakistan in the same month. Despite the victory, Bangladesh were knocked out as the third-placed team in the group, following India's win against Sri Lanka in their final group match.
Bangladesh's poor performance at the 2012 World Twenty20 was largely attributed to their lack of a deep, balanced batting line-up.[184] In the 2012 ICC World Cricket League Championship, Bangladesh also failed to achieve their target of finishing top of Group A, finishing third after losing all their games in the group stage. Bangladesh did, however, qualify for the 2013 World Twenty20 Qualifier, after finishing top of Group B. However, they failed to progress beyond the group stage. Despite their good performance in the tournament, Bangladesh were relegated to the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier for the 2014 World Twenty20.[185] In the event, Bangladesh were drawn in a group with Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. They lost their first three matches against Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and the Netherlands, but eventually won their last three matches to secure qualification to the main competition. 827ec27edc
